Making payments with SWAP – the step-by-step guide

Once you’ve activated your SWAP Wallet, here’s how you make payments:

• Save the SWAP Code of the business you want to pay to your contact list.  If you don’t already have a SWAP Wallet, the onscreen prompts will guide you to enter your ID number and create a secret PIN.  

You save the number so you can redial easily – if it’s not saved to your contact list, you can’t redial it.

• Because you’ve already registered to pay with SWAP, the system will prompt you to enter your secret PIN. Press Answer/Reply, enter your secret PIN in the text entry field and press OK/Send. You’ll be taken to the dedicated payment screen for the business you want to pay.
  
  
  
• Option 1 on the payment screen will be “Make a Payment” To make a payment, press Answer/Reply, enter 1 in the text entry field and press OK/Send.
  
  Remember – if you get disconnected at any time, simply dial the same SWAP Code again to pick up where you left off. It’s easiest to redial if the SWAP Code is already saved to your cellphone contact list.
  
  
  
• The following screen will ask you choose between paying
  from your SWAP Wallet or from your credit card.
  Press Answer/Reply, then - enter 1 in the text entry field (Pay from Wallet)
                                  or
  - enter 2 in the text entry field (Pay from credit card) and press OK/Send.
  
  If you select “Pay from credit card” and you don’t have a credit card linked
  to your SWAP Wallet, the system will prompt you to link a card.
  
  
  
• The next screen will ask you enter a Rand amount for the payment.  Press Answer/Reply then, in the text entry field, enter the rand amount (with no spaces and without the cents amount) Press OK/Send.
  
  
  
• The following screen will ask you enter a cents amount for the payment. Press Answer/Reply then, in the text entry field, enter the two-digit cents amount (e.g. 00 or 75) Press OK/Send.
  
  
• The next screen will allow you to enter a payment reference number. If the business you’re paying requires a payment reference number, press Answer/Reply then, in the text entry field, enter the number (numerical figures only) and press OK/Send.
  If no payment reference is required, enter 0 and press OK/Send.
  
  
  
• The confirmation screen will then display the transaction amount and ask you to confirm it. Press Answer/Reply and enter 1 (Confirm) into the text entry field, then press OK/Send.

Your payment is complete – and a notification will be sent to the merchant.

You can view a mini statement of your last four Wallet or linked credit card payments by dialing any SWAP Code from your cellphone and navigating to “Mini Statement”.

SWAP recommends that you save every SWAP Code you use to your cellphone contact list. Once you’ve done that, it’s as easy to find and use as a phone number – so next time you want to pay, the SWAP Code will be right there.
