SWAP has developed a model to implement SWAP mobile payments in other countries in collaboration with suitable Licensees.  The solution is based on the existing South African model but customized to accommodate each country’s legal and regulatory environment. It thereby leverages the existing value offering of the Licensees concerned.

The implementation of the SWAP system in a given country takes place in three phases which identify and build on the value proposition for the specific market: firstly through research and preparation of the environment, followed by customization and implementation of the system, and finally rollout.

A number of processes are initiated in the first phase to identify the specific enhancements required by the country to improve the marketability of the system.  This process entails an end-to-end review of the processes and functions provided in the SWAP offering, and identification of those aspects of the offering which need to be changed to enable adoption of the system in the market concerned.

The second phase includes the necessary integration required with external partners, specifically the mobile network operators, financial institutions and credit bureaus, to allow value to be transferred in and out of the wallet via the USSD communication protocol.

Phase 3 involves piloting the solution in the country concerned and incorporating the results of the pilot into the system before full scale deployment across the all segments of the market.
