The SWAP Cellphone Guide

Here's how you use USSD on your cellphone:

  • Dial any SWAP Code 
  • Decide on an option from the menu that appears. You may need to scroll down
  • Select Answer/Reply, depending on your phone
  • Input your menu selection
  • Press the Send/Reply/OK key
  • The next menu, or the information requested, will be displayed on your screen

However, each handset functions slightly differently. Below are instructions from some of the major manufacturers. If your particular handset works differently to the guidelines given, simply experiment using the basic principles above.

NOKIA (most models)

  • Dial the SWAP Code and press the call (green) button to Send
  • The screen will display a message saying "requesting"
  • A menu will be displayed on your screen
  • Read the options and make a mental note of the menu number you require
  • Press the "Answer" key
  • Input your menu number selection
  • Press the "Send" Key
    Note that the "Answer" and "Send" keys are very often the same key on Nokia handsets but they change their instruction name from "Answer" to "Send" once the handset detects you have provided an input.
  • In the event that you need to input text, switch to text mode on your phone once you have pressed the "Answer" key and are about to input your text. To do this, press and hold down the # key till the display at the top left of the screen changes from 123 to abc

SAMSUNG (E700 and others)

  • Dial the SWAP Code and press the call (green) button to Send
  • The screen will display: "Please wait. Network action"
  • A menu will be displayed on your screen
  • Read the options and make a mental note of the menu number you require
  • Press the "Reply" key
  • Input your menu number selection
  • Press the "OK" or "Send" key
  • In the event that you need to input text, hold down the # key until the phone toggles to text abc instead of digits 123

SONY ERICSSON (P900, P910, P800)

  • Dial the SWAP Code and press the OK button to Send
  • The screen will display: "accessing network information, Please wait"
  • A menu will be displayed on your screen
  • Read the options and make a mental note of the menu number you require
  • Highlight the "Reply" option
  • Press the "OK" key
  • Input your menu number selection
  • Highlight the "Reply" option again
  • Press the "OK" key to send the instruction
  • The next menu will be displayed
  • In the event that you need to input text, switch to PDA mode and use the "keyboard" or scroll through the letter options by holding down the key required in phone mode

MOTOROLA (most models)

  • Dial the SWAP Code and press the call (green) button to send
  • The screen will display: "Please Wait"
  • A menu will be displayed on your screen
  • Read the options and make a mental note of the menu number you require
  • Press the "Reply" key
  • Input your menu number selection
  • Press "Select" and then "OK"

 HTC (most models)

  • Press the call (green) button to initiate the call
  • Enter the SWAP Code using the virtual keyboard and tap the Talk button to send
  • A SWAP menu will be displayed on your screen
  • Read the options and make a mental note of the menu number you require
  • Tap the character entry field and then select your response from the virtual keyboard
  • Tap OK to send
Text may not wrap when displayed on an HTC phone, so you may need to scroll across the screen using the onscreen slider to read all the information displayed.
