Activate your SWAP Wallet – Step-by-step guide

Please have the following handy:

  • Your cellphone.

  • Your 13-digit South African ID number.

  • The SWAP Direct Code, *130*1313# (or any business’s SWAP Code.)

If you’re not familiar with the USSD technology that SWAP uses, we’d recommend you read SWAP technology explained before you begin.  Also remember that USSD sessions time out after 2 to 3 minutes. There’s no charge for calls to SWAP Codes so, if you get disconnected, just dial again from your contacts list to pick up where you left off.

Activate your SWAP Wallet

  • Save the SWAP Direct Code *130*1313# (or  any business’s SWP Code)
    to your cellphone contacts list.

You save the number so you can redial easily – for security reasons you can’t redial simply by hitting the redial key.

  • Dial the SWAP Code or SWAP Direct Code and keep your eyes on your screen.

  • You’ll be prompted for your ID number
To continue, press Answer/Reply, type your ID number
(no spaces) into the text entry field and press OK/Send.

  • You’ll be prompted to enter and then confirm a secret PIN
Your PIN is your secret. Create one that you’ll remember, but that
no-one else will guess easily. Avoid birthdays and simple sequential
strings of numbers, and never share your PIN with anyone.

  • Type your chosen PIN into the text entry field
    Press OK/Send.

  • You’ll be asked to confirm your PIN. Enter it again and
    Press OK/Send.
Now you’re ready to add funds to your SWAP Wallet and start using it.
